Home vs Gordon Head A
Today's game was our first game played on the new turf field ... I think the girls enjoyed the turf and our visitors also had some compliments on the playing surface. Thanks to Gordon Head, Gorge and our parents for following our turf rules. The game was played under clear skys ... another great weather day for soccer.
Gordon Head A has been our most difficult competion todate in this young season and handed us our first defeat of the season ... a 3-0 loss. I personnaly don't think we played as bad as the score indicates. I think we carried an equal amount of the play, we had a number of shots/chances ... Gordon Head just capitalized on their shots. They also had one very skilled player that capitalized on what I would say was a coaching error on my part (my fault).
Perhaps the girls were stymied by Gordon Head's very good defensive system and the way in which their players stuck to it. They played a sweeper on defence who did a good job on clearing the balls away from the middle of their penalty zone out to the sidelines where their midfielders pushed the ball further up the field.
We did have some bright moments...
- Olivia playing defence, continued to play intelligenty taking the ball to the sidelines away from the middle and not "playing" with the ball in the middle zone
- I heard the girls communicating/talking out on the field (specifically Jennifer, Jaymie and Alanna)
- Indy and Taylor played by far their best games each getting some chances to move the ball around in the opponents end and taking shots
- Kaitlin M. played a good agressive game attacking and defending
- Lauren H. played a very good agressive game not allowing their larger girls to push us around
- Erin playing forward for the first shift penetrated their midfield for a couple of shots although somewhat far out and one missing the net
- There was some good physical play with some very good use of the shoulders (vs hands and elbows) ... although this can always use some more work
So chin up ladies! A goal for the end of the season ... lets hope we meet them again and get a chance to show that we are better than the score indicated!

LakeHill Lightning played GordonHead 'A' to a 2-2 draw at Tyndall Field! The player you mentioned is #7 (Coaches daughter) and she is excellent!
